W hat is the the most important and fastest growing employee benefit? Many employee benefit analysts believe it is prepaid legal insurance. Approximately 80% of Americans do not have legal coverage. The upper 10% of the income earners can afford legal council and attorneys. The lower 10% of the income earners and the poor generally have the government legal services programs to use, such as Legal Aid Societies. The remaining 80% of Americans have to pay legal fees and expenses, mostly out of their own pockets and generally only after the situation becomes a crisis. Those individuals who pay for legal fees themselves usually do not have the discretionary income required for a retainer, regardless of the amount requested. The few that can manage to pay the fees required for the retainer have waited until their legal problem became a crisis, which can further escalate legal costs. When their decision to choose legal representation is finally made, they find themselves faced with other perplexing questions: How much should the attorney cost? How do I know I have a qualified attorney?
